The Distillarium’s Straight Triticale Whiskey

My Price: $39.95

Country/Area: Washington, USA

Distillery: The Distillarium

Proof/ABV: 88 Proof/44% ABV

Mash Bill: Triticale and Malted Barley (unknown percentages)

Barrel: #3 and #4 Char New American Oak

Age: 2+ years

Nose: Candied Nuts, Salted Caramel, Wood

Taste: Butterscotch, Oak, Stewed Fruit

Review: Triticale is a unique grain that offers characteristics of both wheat and rye. This Washington grown grain is then mixed with malted barley, also from Washington, and double distilled before being barreled in #3 and #4 char new American Oak barrels and aged at least 2 years (most bottles are 3 years). Distilled and aged in Yakima, a small city in central(ish) Washington that has cold winters and hot summers. The oak impact makes it drink like a much older whiskey and the unique flavors from the Triticale grain give fantastic sweet notes with hints of spice. To me it is similar to a high corn bourbon but contains no actual corn. The nose exploded with sweet candy notes and the palate is much richer and dense than the 88 proof would leave you to believe.

This was my first bottle of whiskey from The Distillarium but I promise it will note be my last. Cheers!

My Rating: Stock it. A lot of flavor for a decent price and a unique grain not often found in other whiskies.

May the miles you hike be filled with wonder and the glasses you raise be filled with whiskey.

Cheers!

Rating scale:

-Spit: Don’t bother with this one. If a friend gives you a dram of it, are they even your friend?

-Shoot: Good enough to get you drunk.

-Sip: Tasty enough to enjoy neat or on the rocks.

-Stock: I’d recommend keeping a bottle on hand.
