Review: McMenamin’s holds a special place in my heart as I grew up very close to their Edgefield property in Troutdale Oregon and I did numerous job shadows there while I was in high school. One of the first whiskies I ever tried in a bar was their Hogshead Single Malt made right there on the Edgefield property. 15 years later and I finally purchased another offering from McMenamins despite picking up numerous bottles of Hogshead over the years.

Billy Rye is a Bottled in Bond offering distilled at the Cornelius Pass Roadhouse Distillery in Hillsboro Oregon. Their undisclosed mashbill offers very sweet and slightly spiced notes on the nose and some classic rye spice on the tongue. Aged 4 years to meet the bottle in bond requirement it drinks like something a few years older in my opinion. The proof is noticeable but it offers a great flavor bang for the burn buck. At around $50 from the various McMenamin’s properties this one is worth picking up if you enjoy a nicely spiced rye. Cheers!

My Rating: Stock it!

May the miles you hike be filled with wonder and the glasses you raise be filled with whiskey.

Cheers!

Rating scale:

-Spit: Don’t bother with this one. If a friend gives you a dram of it, are they even your friend?

-Shoot: Good enough to get you drunk.

-Sip: Tasty enough to enjoy neat or on the rocks.

-Stock: I’d recommend keeping a bottle on hand.
