Review:
The first Rye in the Jefferson’s Ocean Aged at Sea lineup. Released in the spring of 2022 I was able to find a bottle while down in Florida. The Canadian Rye was aged (for an undisclosed amount of time) in #3 char new American oak before being rebarreled in toasted oak and new #3 char barrels before being aged at sea on a boat. The boat crossed the equator numerous times while traversing the globe. This constant motion paired with the extreme temperature changes seems to have an effect on the final product. I say seems because I have never tried the whiskey before being aged at sea.
The classic Rye notes are present in this whiskey but there are additional notes that are likely added from the unique refinishing process and aging at sea. I did not get any of the typical saline notes typical of a Jefferson’s Ocean but I did pick up burnt orange which is a note I do not recall ever getting on a Rye.
I am looking forward to Voyage 26 releasing in the Pacific Northwest so I can pick up an extra bottle or two. They are fairly high priced but the fact that they taste different from any Rye I have had before makes it worth the price to me. Cheers!
My Rating: Stock it! It has all the classic notes with the addition of burnt sugar and orange.
May the miles you hike be filled with wonder and the glasses you raise be filled with whiskey.
Cheers!
Rating scale:

-Shoot: Good enough to get you drunk.
-Sip: Tasty enough to enjoy neat or on the rocks.
-Stock: I’d recommend keeping a bottle on hand.
