Review: I had not heard of the Master Distiller Series when I came across number 2 and 3 at a small grocery store in rural Washington. Seeing is that my wife’s name is Jess and I could only afford one bottle I picked up this No. 2 bottle honoring the second Master Distiller at Jack Daniel “Jess Motlow”. Although the is not much info as to what makes this particular selection “special” it is a bit different in smell and taste compared to the traditional Old No. 7 from Jack Daniels.
Jess Motlow ran the Jack Daniel’s Distillery from 1911 to 1941 bringing it through prohibition. He was able to recreate his uncle Jack Daniel’s distillery from memory and recreated what we know now as one of the most storied and well selling whiskies in the world.
Is this whiskey worth twice as much as old No. 7? Probably not. However, I am happy to have this bottle gracing my bar. Cheers!
My Rating: Sip it if you are a history nerd like me. Cheer!
May the miles you hike be filled with wonder and the glasses you raise be filled with whiskey.
Cheers!
Rating scale:
-Spit: Don’t bother with this one. If a friend gives you a dram of it, are they even your friend?
-Shoot: Good enough to get you drunk.
-Sip: Tasty enough to enjoy neat or on the rocks.
-Stock: I’d recommend keeping a bottle on hand.
