Review: Double Circle Spirits uses wheat grown on their family farm near the Deschutes River in Oregon that has been in the family for more than 145 years. Because they are so proud of this wheat they put as much as legally possible into their bourbon. With a mash bill of 51 corn and 49 wheat there are heavy notes of dough and fresh baked wheat bread. Grain dust and sweetness come across on the palate with a finish that lingers longer than you would expect for a 90 proofer. A bit more interesting than your traditionally sweet bourbons, this whiskey makes for a heck of a hot toddy and offers the slightest “Kentucky Hug” to keep you warm during the cooler months. If you want a bourbon that isn’t chasing the traditional caramel, oak and vanilla notes, this may be the whiskey for you. Cheers!

My Rating: Sip it!

May the miles you hike be filled with wonder and the glasses you raise be filled with whiskey.

Cheers!

Rating scale:

-Spit: Don’t bother with this one. If a friend gives you a dram of it, are they even your friend?

-Shoot: Good enough to get you drunk.

-Sip: Tasty enough to enjoy neat or on the rocks.

-Stock: I’d recommend keeping a bottle on hand.
