Distillery: Buffalo Trace

Proof/ABV: 80 Proof/ 40ABV

Mash Bill: Undisclosed Buffalo Trace #2 (high rye)

Taste: Sweet Cream, Vanilla, Slight Spice

Review: Comprised of Buffalo Traces famous mash bill #2, think Elmer T. Lee & Blantons, this young offering packs a wonderful amount of sweet flavor for such a low proof and price. Its mash bill #1 brother, Benchmark, seems to be getting most of the attention these days with it’s expanded product line but the two never seemed to compare for my palate. To me Ancient Age is much smoother and more approachable than the Benchmark, which to me tastes exactly like a cheap whiskey. Ancient Age is complex enough to drink on its own but still mixes well without getting completely lost in a Bourbon and Coke. For my money this may be the best sub $12 bottle in the market. Cheers!

My Rating: Stock it!

May the miles you hike be filled with wonder and the glasses you raise be filled with whiskey.

Cheers!

Rating scale:

-Spit: Don’t bother with this one. If a friend gives you a dram of it, are they even your friend?

-Shoot: Good enough to get you drunk.

-Sip: Tasty enough to enjoy neat or on the rocks.

-Stock: I’d recommend keeping a bottle on hand.
