Review: I’m not sure if it is great marketing by Buffalo Trace or the fact that Weller offers a great product for the price (when found at MSRP) but Weller Special Reserve has become incredibly hard to find. Thankfully wheated bourbons are not typically my go to so Weller bottles tend to last in my bar. There was a time when I was just getting into whiskey that I could walk into most liquor stores in Oregon and find Weller Special Reserve and Weller Antique 107 sitting side by side on the shelf, both for less than $30 each. Those days are long gone sadly and I can see why in price controlled states. Compared to Larceny and Maker’s Mark in the same price range I say Weller Special Reserve is shoulders above them in how approachable and easy to drink it is. The sweet caramel notes are present on the nose and palate and there is a bit of spice, likely from the oak influence, as there is no rye in the mash bill. If you are able to find a bottle of Weller Special Reserve for less than $30 it is worth picking up. Cheers!

My Rating: Stock it if you can find it!

May the miles you hike be filled with wonder and the glasses you raise be filled with whiskey.

Cheers!

Rating scale:

-Spit: Don’t bother with this one. If a friend gives you a dram of it, are they even your friend?

-Shoot: Good enough to get you drunk.

-Sip: Tasty enough to enjoy neat or on the rocks.

-Stock: I’d recommend keeping a bottle on hand.
