Review: I applaud Black Rock Spirits for listing all of the info about this whiskey on the back of the bottle. They do not hide that it is not distilled by them and they say what their “unique process” is. They take the now classic 95/5 Rye mash bill from MGP and after 3 years of aging in a barrel add charred cherry and peach wood from the orchards local to Treasure Valley Idaho. Sadly, they then water it down and multiply the price tag. I could understand if the Unique Process added a great deal of cost however their other offering in the Bourbon category has a similar finishing process and is 1/3 the price of this rye which is the same juice but younger that use to go into Bulleit Rye. This rye is pretty tasty and offers more stone fruit than most other ryes I have tried. That being said it is still pretty young and lacks the flavor I would expect for a bottle with a +$150 price tag. Cheers!

My Rating: Spit. This is far too expensive to bother with. At $50 a bottle its worth trying and at $35 a bottle its worth stocking.

May the miles you hike be filled with wonder and the glasses you raise be filled with whiskey.

Cheers!

Rating scale:

-Spit: Don’t bother with this one. If a friend gives you a dram of it, are they even your friend?

-Shoot: Good enough to get you drunk.

-Sip: Tasty enough to enjoy neat or on the rocks.

-Stock: I’d recommend keeping a bottle on hand
