Review: I can still remember seeing Stagg Jr. mentioned for the first time by Rex and Daniel on The Whiskey Vault YouTube channel. Shortly after that video I saw a bottle sitting on my local Total Wine shelf for $49.99 and I remarked to a friend “I hear that’s a good whiskey if you want one that punches you in the face.” We laughed and moved on. That was the last time I saw a bottle of Stagg…

Until I walked into a small grocery store in a small town in central Washington. I struggled to contain my excitement as I went to the cashier to request she unlock the cabinet for me so I could take home this coveted bottle from the Buffalo Trace Distillery. Coming in at 132 proof this batch of Stagg is a bit punchy on the nose. But if you search long enough you can find some sweet and fruity notes. The palate is dark and rich and the finish lingers long after your sip.

Is this bottle worth the hundreds of dollars it can sell for online? No, in my opinion. Is it worth searching for? Absolutely. Cheer!

My Rating: Stock it if you can find it for under $100!

May the miles you hike be filled with wonder and the glasses you raise be filled with whiskey.

Cheers!

Rating scale:

-Spit: Don’t bother with this one. If a friend gives you a dram of it, are they even your friend?

-Shoot: Good enough to get you drunk.

-Sip: Tasty enough to enjoy neat or on the rocks.

-Stock: I’d recommend keeping a bottle on hand.
