Review: I have picked up every bottle of Ocean Aged at Sea from Jefferson’s since my first bottle of Voyage 16. Sadly, most of the voyages have left me wanting more. The story is still fun with these whiskies aging on ships that circumnavigate the globe leaving Savanah Georgia and crossing the equator numerous times. The vast temperature differences paired with the near constant motion of the ships does make for unique expressions and the money from the bottles does go to Ocearch which is dedicated to researching and tracking keystone marine species like sharks.
All that being said this is still a $90 bottle of whiskey in my area and at least for this Voyage 28 bottle it drinks like something half its cost. I will likely continue to buy these bottles hoping that I find the gems like voyage 16 and 24 but until them I can only recommend you try a pour if offered. Save your money on a whole bottle. Cheers!
My Rating: Shoot it. If it wasn’t so darned expensive it would get a higher rating.
May the miles you hike be filled with wonder and the glasses you raise be filled with whiskey.
Cheers!
Rating scale:
-Spit: Don’t bother with this one. If a friend gives you a dram of it, are they even your friend?
-Shoot: Good enough to get you drunk.
-Sip: Tasty enough to enjoy neat or on the rocks.
-Stock: I’d recommend keeping a bottle on hand.
