Review: Battle Ground Lake State Park offers a handful of trails throughout the park as well as hike and drive in camp sites, camp store, aquatic rentals and plenty of swimming. The park is less than 10 minutes from Battle Ground Washington and requires a day use or Washington Discovery Pass to park.
The Lower Lake loop skirts along the shore line of Battle Ground Lake with very little elevation changes and is about .8 miles long. The outer loop goes through the camp ground and offers more forested and secluded hiking. There is about 200’ of elevation change along the upper loop over its 1.5(ish) miles of trail. The hiking is easy going and some of the trail is paved or gravel. The views vary but the park is often crowded in the summer and can be loud with the noise of swimmers and children and families taking a break from the heat. You can hike either loop in either direction and it may be worth bringing flip flops if you want to get into the water to cool off while hiking the lower loop.
Rating: Bring a friend!
Rating Guide:
-Gram it: Check out the pictures on Instagram because this one is not worth seeing in person.
-Hike it: It’s short and sweet. Might as well knock it out in a day.
-Bag it: Pack a bag and spend the night.
-Bring a friend: Easy enough to bring a friend. Maybe this is where you can introduce someone to backpacking.
-Come Back: I will keep doing this trip it is so good!
