Review: I purchased the Nature Hike Cloud Up tent for a snow shoe trip I had planned on Mt Hood in Oregon with a good friend. I liked that it had a snow skirt (although I didn’t know what a snow skirt did) and it seemed like a decent weight/room ratio while still being fairly inexpensive.
I was impressed with the build quality for such a budget tent but quickly realized upon setting it up that it would not handle much in the way of snow load. Thankfully we only received about 4” of snow overnight which was enough to seal us in thanks to the snow skirt. This led to some light-headedness and tentmate was aware enough to open up the front entry door to allow some fresh air in, possibly saving our life. Since that trip it has yet to see more snow but it has gone on a handful of trips when the miles are low and the space is needed. I don’t think 3 grown men could sleep comfortably but it will hold 2 25” wide pads nicely with room in the middle for playing cards. The tent comes with everything you need including tent stakes and a ground sheet. It can be pitched with just the ground sheet and fly to save some weight and the removeable rain fly means you can enjoy a meshed in view of a clear night.
If you are in the market for a big but budgetish tent this may be the one for you. Just make sure you keep things ventilated. Learn from my mistakes.
My Rating: Buy one but skip the snow skirt as the poles will not hold much snow weight.
Rating scale:
-Bypass: This isn’t worth the money.
-Borrow: Handy but may or may not be worth your money.
-Buy: Get one. You’ll love it!
May the miles you hike be filled with wonder and the glasses you raise be filled with whiskey.
Cheers!
