Review: As someone who got into backpacking in the late twenty teens via YouTube, I was constantly bombarded with big name YouTubers who were using Enlightened Equipment quilts. Once I got a little money in my wallet and had a few cold nights in Amazon.com sleep bags that said they were good down to freezing, I decided to place my order for a custom Enlightened Equipment quilt. For some reason I felt like a sewn in footbox would be too much, especially during the summer months but as I have used this quilt for 5+ years and have never unzipped it, I do regret that decisions. My quilt has a few patches on it as I chose the 7D inner and outer fabric as well as the 950 fill down to ensure this bag was as light as possible (despite the zippered Revelation choice). I am only 5’ 5” tall so I ordered the short but wide version so I could fully wrap it around my broad shoulders if needed. Sadly, as someone who tosses and turns at night the quilt does tend to have drafts if I roll enough to pull the edge of the quilt off of my sleeping pad. That being said, unless it is below 40 degrees at night it is rarely noticed and often the quilt is slept partially on top of when it is warmer out. The utility of the quilt makes it the most common quilt/sleeping bag to go with me on trips. When its warm I just drape it on top of me and if it cools down it is easy to put my feet into the footbox and tuck the sides under me. The pad straps are easy to use and the quilt can be buckled around you to give a close to sleeping bag feet. At just of 18oz this is a wonderful addition to your backpack although you may just want to save the slight big of weight and chose the Enigma with the sewn closed footbox rather than the zipper. Cheer!
My Rating: Bypass the Revelation but Buy the Enigma. Buy once cry once!
Rating scale:
-Bypass: This isn’t worth the money.
-Borrow: Handy but may or may not be worth your money.
-Buy: Get one. You’ll love it!
May the miles you hike be filled with wonder and the glasses you raise be filled with whiskey.
Cheers!
