Taste: Rich roasted beef and veggies pairs so nicely with the garlic mashed potatoes.

Texture: Great texture. The large veggies rehydrated nicely and the mashed potatoes did not soak up all the water before everything else had a chance.

Overall Score: Buy it!

Notes: I have long been a fan of the offerings from the Bozeman Montana based Gastro Gnome. Their meals offer great flavors with minimal water and wait times. When I received an email about a Kickstarter campaign for 2 new meals I immediately jumped at the chance. This Montana Beef Shepherd’s Pie offers ample amounts of ground beef and veggies along with the garlic mashed potatoes. I was a little leery of having mashed potatoes in the mix as they can often rehydrate immediately leaving everything else starved of water and therefore crunchy. Somehow these magical Gnomes avoided this and everything rehydrated nicely. Ideally, I would add a little spice and a bit more pepper but it was fantastic as it came. If you are a fan of a delicious Shepherd’s Pie at home you will not be disappointed to have this on trail. The only downside is the price and shelf life but you can taste and feel the quality that the 16.95 price tag gets you. Cheers!

May the miles you hike be filled with wonder and the glasses you raise be filled with whiskey. Cheers!
