Review: I have gone to Siltcoos Lake a handful of times as it has fairly temperate temps year around. The trail is not often busy and there are 4 dedicated camp sites with fire rings, picnic benches and privys. The slight elevation and low miles make it a great trip for families or first times. The trailhead is right off of Highway 101 so ensure you do not leave any valuables in your care. Bears are often spotted in the area so ensure proper leave not trace and bear precautions are taken.
The trail leads through lush coastal forests with occasional streams that have easy crossings very rarely leading to wet feet. The swampier areas offer boardwalks and the camp sites have water access (some sites easier to access than others). The vault toilets are often stocked with toilet paper but I always recommend bringing your own.
The trail head is only 10-15 minutes from Florence Oregon and is on the opposite side of HWY 101 from the beach entrance making it a great option to sleep in a tent overnight and drive down to the beach in the morning.
Rating: Come Back! I will continue to hike this trip for years to come. It’s easy enough to pack in firewood or real food and offers immense beauty along the Southern Oregon Coast.
Rating Guide:
-Gram it: Check out the pictures on Instagram because this one is not worth seeing in person.
-Hike it: It’s short and sweet. Might as well knock it out in a day.
-Bag it: Pack a bag and spend the night.
-Bring a friend: Easy enough to bring a friend. Maybe this is where you can introduce someone to backpacking.
-Come Back: I will keep doing this trip it is so good!
