Review: When I first came across the Carbon Core stakes from MSR online I was shocked by their low weight but equally shocked at their price tag. Thankfully I decided to order 8 stakes for use with my Zpacks Duplex tent before I began to see YouTube reviews saying they were flimsy and pulled out easily under tension. Lucky for me the ground I often backpack in is fairly soft and does a good job of holding onto these nail style stakes. I love the rounded end is easy to press into the ground and just as easy to pull from the ground when breaking down camp. I’m sure if I hit a stake with a rock or put my full weight into it rather than moving to avoid a large rock, they would likely break. In the 4+ years I’ve used these stakes I have yet to break a single one. The fact that they were the lightest option on the market means they will continue to have a home in my backpack. Cheers!
